1 Physical Activity (PA) and Brain Development at School Age

Brain structural (left) and functional plasticity (right) in different PA levels

Prepuberty and puberty are critical periods in the brain that develop rapidly until it becomes a highly structured and functionally specialized brain. And the plasticity of gray and white matter continues into the 30th year of life. Previous studies found that PA can significantly promote the development of brain function, which is related to improving cognition function and academic performance.
In this study, PA shows a positive relationship to the left postcentral gyrus's surface area and an inverse relationship to the right inferior temporal gyrus.

2 The Influence of Key Facial Features on Recognition of Emotion in Cartoon Faces

Influences of key facial features on recognition of emotion in cartoon faces

As an attractive art form, cartoon faces are widely used in daily life. Cartoon animation is an important carrier that helps children acquire emotional knowledge and enables adults to express feelings and attitudes. In this study, we found that information from the mouth itself was sufficient to identify happy expressions, and removing the mouth significantly decreased the accuracy of happiness identification in cartoon faces.
